I fast once a week with mostly no food, I might eat a banana in the morning and then one bottle of honey water and then just drinking water all day for 24 hours the longest I have done this for I think its 3 days maybe it was only 2. It gets easier over time but at first, I would get headaches at the beginning although the honey water really helps for that.
Personally, to get started in fasting I did variations of the “Daniel Fast.” I found out later that the fast he and the boys did initially as well as when he was older were strictly vegan, with the latter being more of a partial meaning under 500 calories per day and him only doing so as he was most likely in his 90’s and needed some sustenance because of his age. I think starting out in a fasting lifestyle taking small fasts first is good. Then progress on to longer fast. Personally, the longest I went was 14 days water only. There are some books on Kindle I found really helpful and super informative by a Pentecostal from the 40’s. I’ll see if I can find the link and post it. He breaks down how to fast and pray for long periods and most importantly how to break those long fasts. Let me know what you think if you read one of his books.

The first couple fasts I ever did were on fresh-juiced carrots and a couple other veggies. That was when fasting was foreign to me. It was okay, but doesn't really seem like "fasting" to me anymore. All the fasts I have done as a follower of Christ Jesus have been water fasts. Those have been seeming really good to me, but sometimes I wonder if I should be doing "dry fasts" where I would take in nothing. I don't know about that, though. Fear of dry fasting was put into me decades ago.
I have not done very long fasts -- 3 days being the most, and just a few times. I'm not certain whether I would rather do 3-day fasts more frequently or do more extended fasts and would love to hear the experiences of others.
I have had trouble keeping my focus on praying more while fasting. I give myself a D grade on that score.
